Our program is based on Goodwill and Charitable Contributions of equipment, disposable supplies, pharmaceuticals and professional time.
Save-A-Heart is a duly registered, Florida based, not-for-profit humanitarian foundation. The Foundation is in the process of completing its provisionary 501 (c) (3) registration. Thereafter, all material contributions will be tax deductible.
Our Mission:
Support any initiative in providing life-saving cardiac surgical interventions focusing on eliminating preventable deaths & crippling disability among economically disadvantaged children in Latin America and the Caribbean who are affected by congenital & acquired heart defects.
As a major task of this Millennium: The Foundation is focusing in "diminishing the infants morbidity- mortality in the emergent or re-developing countries"
Our History:
Founded in 1999 by Carlos Troconis, M.D., a dedicated pediatrician and leading pediatric cardiac surgeon with 25 years experience in developing pediatric cardiac surgery programs; Save-A-Heart Foundation was originally based in Caracas, Venezuela as "Fundación de Corazón a Corazón".
The "Fundación de Corazón a Corazón" had successfully operated as a charitable-humanitarian organization, providing LIFE SAVING CARDIAC SURGERY to disadvantaged children, regardless of ability to pay.
In 2004, we moved to the Dominican Republic, where our collaboration with the local Cibao Heart Foundation had progressively established a permanent Cardiac Procedures Program at the Children's Hospital of the city of Santiago.
This unprecedented program has been proven successful on many different levels. On January 2008 we will open our permanent program in a brand new facility with all state of the art technology in healthcare, the Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS). This Center will accept referrals for surgery from pediatric cardiologists in the Dominican Republic and soon from throughout Caribbean basin.
While we excel in providing care for routine and intermediate complexity level cases, our actual limitations the highly complex (tertiary) cases will be referred preferentially to the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine/ Jackson Memorial Hospital.
OUR GOAL
We aim to save over 500-children every year through a robust, well managed, cardiac surgery and cardiac interventional program. |
